We celebrate the conclusion of our first round of contests to award the right to open an Acton Academy. There were over 70 entries. We selected winners in London, Washington, D.C., and Round Rock, TX with one still pending in Chicago. In addition to Brian Holtz’s south Austin location opening this fall, and our Guatemala City and Venice Beach campuses, our dream of a growing network of Acton Academies is happening.
A second round of the contest will close on March 31st, with the possibility of adding a few more schools to the mix next year.
We like to think of this more as an awakening than a revolution. We’ve flipped the switch and the lights are coming on. It’s no longer radical to stand up and say that young people learn best when they are in charge of their learning; young people are deeply curious and responsible; and each child is a genius who is capable of a hero’s journey.
We look forward to these partnerships and the lifelong benefit that all of our children will gain by being a part of a global network of independent learners who are passionate about finding their callings. Our little campus will be the hub of this exciting community of learning. A parents’ lunch meeting in London, anyone?
